Adolfo Fiori frequently addresses subjects that have their origin in his personal experiences. The memories of his childhood and the way to school in Milan inspire him Interferences. Billworld is a mirror view of his job as a photographer and the vanity of this advertising fantasy. The polystyrenes, beyond their polysemy of ephemeral objects, fragile, reassuring and symbols of overconsumption, are an unconscious tribute to his father. In the 1950s, this sculptor had to abandon his artistic profession because of necessity to start manufacturing plastic packaging industrially, contributing to the wave that affected our societies. Chemin de croix was born from the memory, when he arrived in Paris in 1976, of the overabundance of pharmacies in the « Ville lumière » and the strange feeling that it had inspired him.
Born in 1953 in Sarzana, Northern Italy, lived and worked in Milan until he was 23. After studying semiology and photography at the University of Bologna, he moved to Paris in the mid-1970s. Here he completed his studies in visual arts, worked independently for many agencies and clients in the field of still life and taught photography from '79 to '89.
From 1990 to 2000, alongside his commissioned work, he explores the possibilities of a new Polaroid camera that allows you to shoot close-up and superpositions directly.
From 2004 he is carrying out a project entitled Interferences. In 2007 this work on Milan is awarded and exhibited at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris.
From 2004 to 2016 he takes pictures, as he move around, of panels, tarpaulins and advertising screens populated by giant watches, oversized faces and characters, forming a kind of religious iconography of the cult of consumption. About 80 images make up this project which takes the name of Billworld.
In the early 2000s, inspired by the strange design of polystyrene packaging and its immaculate whiteness, he began a collection that grew over the years and settled permanently in his studio occupying a large wall that eventually resembled a science fiction decor.
In 2017, the Polystyrenes series, like a gallery of portraits on a black background, testifies to all these pieces. Saved from a cruel fate, they bear witness to our society of abundance.
He is currently finalizing two other projects:
A work on Paris between 2019 and 2024 that will take the name of Chemin de croix (Via Crucis) and a series of images on the dams of Saint Malo entitled Un an sur la digue (A year on the dam).
